Requirements to Shop

Products at duty-free shops are available for purchase only by Koreans and other nationals who are about to depart from Korea. Such customers may begin making purchases online 60 days prior to their departure dates. To make purchases at, or pick up products ordered online from, duty-free shops at airports, each customer must produce his or her passport and boarding pass, indicating the date and time of departure and flight number.

If you enter the country with purchases totaling more than USD 800
(including all products purchased abroad and at duty free stores in Korea),
you must fill out a customs declaration form and pay a tax on the surplus amount.
(An exemption or reduction of benefits will be offered for those who voluntarily report their purchases, while the discovery of a failure to report will result in the levying of additional taxes.)

How to Shop at Duty Free Shops

Step1Present your boarding pass
For identification purposes, present a valid passport and boarding pass indicating your departure date (both belonging to you).
Step2Purchase goods
Visit a store and purchase an item.
- (The price will be converted into Korean won at the exchange rate in effect on the date of your purchase.)

Step3Verify your purchase
Check your purchase receipt and make sure that the passport number, departure date, and product information are all correct.

(You will need to present the purchase receipt at the pickup location. However, if any information on the receipt is incorrect, your purchase may not be released to you.)
Step4Pick up your purchase
Pick up your product at one of the designated pickup locations.

You may receive your purchase upon presenting your purchase receipt, passport, and boarding pass.

Information on delivery of purchased items and notes for receiving goods

Purchased items are transported to the place of delivery. After completing departure procedures,
present your passport, exchange ticket and boarding pass at the place of delivery to collect your items.
Redistribution of purchased items is prohibited Korea.
When receiving an item at the place of delivery, check the item(s) and its quantity at the site before signing the receipt.
If any problems are found related to the item(s), ask the sta at the delivery place.
Please note that Shinsegae Duty Free Shop is not responsible for any problems reported after a customer has signed his or her receipt of an exchange ticket.
Liquid items must be handled as baggage when returning from abroad.
Items left unclaimed at the place of delivery that are not claimed (via phone) by the customer within 16days of departure from Korea will be returned to customs as undelivered items whose purchase will be automatically canceled.
In-store cancellation is permitted for purchases made with cash or a gift certificate or in the event that a giveaway needs to be returned.
Redistribution of purchased items is prohibited Korea.

Important Notifications

As goods purchased at duty-free shops are exempt from taxes, Korean nationals may purchase from duty-free shops only products that they intend to use or give as gifts while abroad.
Should a Korean national wish to bring back some of the duty-free goods purchased upon departing Korea, he or she must report to customs the value of such goods in excess of the USD 800 limit.
Failure to report the value of such goods to customs may result in additional taxes and surcharges being levied on the unreported goods. Any deliberate omission or false reporting of such information may be punishable under customs law.
The Korea Customs Service (KCS) maintains records of all Korean nationals who purchase duty-free goods and the details of their purchases. Korean nationals who purchased duty-free products in excess of USD 800 in total value may be subjected to an additional customs process upon arrival in Korea, in accordance with the digital records of the KCS.

You may not exchange a product you have purchased for another product. However, you may cancel your purchase,
make another purchase of the desired product, and pick up the purchase from the pickup location at your departure airport. (Exchanges will not be possible
after picking up your purchases at the airport.)
You may return a purchase for a refund if the product is defective. Should you wish to exchange the product for another of the same model, you may do so,
insofar as there are goods remaining in stock. If you would like to have a product exchanged due to a defect, but the product is out of stock,
you may receive a refund only.
Should you wish to receive an exchange or a refund for a duty-free product from a location outside Korea, you must first send the product to
Shinsegae Duty Free in Korea by international mail.
If the traveler requests a refund for a purchased item that he/she brought into Korea in person, and the item exceeds USD 800 in value,
it must be reported voluntarily to customs. After being reported, the item must be retained or cleared by customs (if brought into Korea after tax has been paid).

Guidelines for receiving tax refund on voluntarily reported refunded item
If the purchaser has satisfied Shinsegae Duty Free’s refund criteria and has the necessary documents, he/she may apply for a tax refund via UNIPASS
(Korea Customs Service’s electronic customs system). Applications for tax refunds are accepted up to five years after the date on which the purchased item is
returned to Shinsegae Duty Free.
-Criteria for refund: ① Voluntary report upon entering Korea ② Payment of tax for purchased product confirmed via customs clearance statement (issued by customs office) and payment receipt (issued by a bank)
-Required documents: ① Refund application ② Certificate of Customs Custody ③ Confirmation of product return and receipt of refund (issued by Shinsegae Duty Free) ④ Copy of front page of bankbook (to receive refund)

Conditions for Cancellation, Exchange or Refunds

You may not exchange a product you have purchased for another product. If your passport number or departure date, flight, or airport has been changed, you may be unable to pick up the duty-free goods you have purchased.
